Apply to the Honors Program

You must meet one of the following criteria:

• High school GPA: 3.3 or higher; or
• Top 25% high school class rank; or
• SAT: 560 Math and 560 Evidence-Based Reading and Writing; or
• SAT: 1130 Combined Score for both Math and Critical Reading; or
• ACT: 23 Composite Score with 21 Math and 21 English Scores; or
• TSI: 360 Reading, 345 Math, 6 Essay Writing or 5 Essay with 370 Sentence Structure Score
  
• Also, combinations of above test scores are acceptable (for example, 560 SAT Math and 21 ACT English).

Dual Credit and other high school students are eligible and can apply for the program.

It is possible to gain admission into the Honors Program by describing your interest and your academic and professional accomplishments. You may request a personal interview with the Honors Program. This brief interview will determine if there are circumstances that should be taken into consideration.

Honors students are a diverse group of highly motivated Dallas College students who desire enriched and rewarding courses. The Honors Program is open to all qualifying credit students. All Honors students must complete an Honors Program online application form.

Honors classes incorporate a variety of learning experiences that emphasize critical thinking skills through collaborative learning, development of research skills, growth of personal leadership capabilities and advanced communication skills. Honors courses generally offer access to smaller classes taught by Honors faculty members.

Although you will be expected to work hard, Honors classes are not necessarily more difficult than regular classes. In fact, Honors students report that their Honors courses are more enjoyable than regular classes. In Honors courses, students are surrounded by like-minded, high-achieving students, increasing the performance and enjoyment of everyone.

Tuition is the same as for other classes.

The Dallas College Honors experience provides students with cocurricular and extracurricular enrichment. Honors students are involved in cultural activities both on and off campus and in community-based activities that incorporate learning experiences beyond the classroom, such as service-learning and study abroad.

After you have been accepted, your success coach must register you into Honors courses.

We recommend looking at the Honors courses offered before meeting with your success coach.

Good standing within the Honors Program is a 3.25. If you fall below this GPA, then the Honors Program will review your status with you and work with you to develop a plan to get back on track.

We try to let you know as soon as possible. We aim to inform you within two business days. We ask that you give us at least a week, and if you haven’t heard, please email us at honors@dcccd.edu, and we can give you a status update.

No. However, to graduate as an Honors Scholar, you will need 15 Honors course credit hours, six extracurricular hours and 10 cocurricular hours.

To graduate with the Honors Certificate, you will need nine Honors course credit hours, three extracurricular hours and three cocurricular hours.

No. There are students who are in one or both. The Honors Program is an academic program that includes courses, while PTK is an honors society similar to a student club.
