Supporting Students in Peer-Engagement

Supporting Students in Peer-Engagement

Workshop Description:

Facilitating a classroom community in which students engage deeply with their peers’ ideas requires a different skillset than disciplinary expertise, and yet these kinds of classroom communities help students see themselves as generators of knowledge and meaning in the disciplines. In this session, we will discuss and model two frameworks for thinking about this facilitation work. Participants will reflect on these experiences as learners and as teachers so that they can apply these frameworks to their own teaching practice. We will model this work in the context of a remote session, but these skills will be useful when we return to in-person teaching as well.
