CSULB Computer Labs

General Campus Labs

CSULB hosts a variety of labs on campus that can be utilized by all students.  Expand the menus below to find details and locations.

The Accessible Instructional Materials (AIM) Center, part of the Bob Murphy Access Center (BMAC), is a technology and accessibility resource lab that provides support and services for students with disabilities, faculty, staff, and the campus community.

Location: AS Building, Room 116 [Map] 

The AIM Center has an open access computer lab for students with disabilities registered with BMAC and provides alternative media and assistive technology support for students who qualify for these accommodations. 

Location: University Library, Lower Level Study Room 13 [Map] 

The AIM Center also provides a study room in the University Library’s lower level for students with disabilities registered with BMAC to access during library hours. A room code is needed to access the room and can be requested through the AIM Center.

The Horn Center Open Computer Lab provides open access to PCs and Macs, collaboration/group meeting tables, study tables equipped with charging connections, and the Technology Help Desk for onsite technical assistance.

The lab is open to all CSULB students. Students may enter the lab and access any workstation at their convenience for any amount of time. However, at busy times of the year (around exams), reservations may be required onsite and time limitations may be imposed so that all students can access a computer.  Please plan ahead for these eventualities.

Location: Spidell Technology Center, 1st Floor, University Library [map]

The Spidell Technology Center is open to all CSULB students and provides access to PCS and Macs. There is an automated sign-up that assigns computers to users as workstations become available during busy periods.  Computers are loaded with software, and some stations are especially set up for use with Zoom. The lab is available whenever the library is open.

The University Express Lab at the Student Success Center gives students quick access to computers and printers in a central campus location. The equipment includes 9 PC Workstations, 3 Apple iMacs, 2 Black White Printers.

 

Academic Department Labs

Computer labs within academic departments may have restrictions for use by students in that program only.  Visit the links provided below for more information. 

The School of Art hosts several computer labs for students. 

Location: DESN 103 & 105 map
The Design PC Labs are for our Design students to learn various cutting-edge design software such as:

  • Solidworks, Keyshot, Rhino, SketchUp Pro, Enscape, Twinmotion, Lumion, AutoDesk Suite, Adobe CC Suite, Unity 3D 

Location: Theatre Arts map
The Theatre Arts PC & Mac Lab is for our Theatre students to learn Stage, lighting, and sound design. The computers are equipped with the following software:

  • Vectorworks, WYSIWYG, GMa 3D, Prezi, SketchUp Pro, Adobe CC Suite, Capture, Lightweight, Light Converse, Final Cut

The Bob Cole Conservatory of Music Mac lab is for our music students to learn music scoring, sound recording, video & sound editing. The computers are equipped with the following software:

  • Finale, Sibelius, Logic Pro, Adobe CC Suite

The College of Business Lab is open to all CSULB students. The labs host the Bloomberg Terminals which can be used for financial research. They also have collaborative group stations to accommodate group projects.

Note: These labs will be closed at the end of the Spring 2022 semester for one year due to the LA1 building remodeling.

Remote and Virtual Labs

With access to remote labs, students can work with software not available on their personal computers. Some applications may not work as intended due to the limitations of remote desktops. 

Remote labs may be available in certain departments so you can work with specific software needed for your program. A VPN connection is needed before accessing the remote labs:  Remote Access Service

In the CSULB Student Virtual Lab (SVL), students can conveniently utilize university-supported software applications and enhance their computing power at no extra cost. 

The SVL is available 24/7 from any remote location.
