NY Fed’s Williams foresees rate cuts in 2024

Fed minutes discuss inflation expectation dispersion, losses and policy lag risks

The New York Fed’s John Williams has said he predicts a time, “probably 2024”, when the Fed will lower the federal funds rate. “My baseline outlook,” added Williams, “does not foresee a recession occurring.”

Williams is president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and vice-chair of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC). He spoke at the Economic Club of New York on November 28.

“There could be shocks or events I’m not seeing associated with a recession,” he continued. He argued
