Waldron gave up a season-high five runs against Toronto in his last start, but he bounced back nicely Wednesday to earn his first win of the season. The knuckleballer didn't seem to have any trouble with his primary pitch in the Colorado altitude, as the Rockies managed a modest four hits against him. Waldron's quality start was also his first of the campaign, and he now holds a respectable 3.96 ERA through 25 innings.
Campusano is out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies.
Campusano will get a rest day after starting six of eight games in the Padres' last three series. The 25-year-old catcher is slashing .288/.321/.413 with 14 RBI through 84 plate appearances on the year.

Cronenworth went 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Rockies.
Tuesday was Cronenworth's second three-hit effort of the year and his first since the team's opening series in Japan. Despite a productive evening, Cronenworth has been struggling to hit lately and does not have an extra-base knock since homering April 12. Over his last eight games, the 30-year-old is slashing just .200/.351/.200 with one RBI, four runs and a 7:5 BB:K.

Padres' Michael King: Short start in loss

King (2-2) took the loss Tuesday against the Rockies, allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits and three walks while striking out five in 3.2 innings.
King had given up just one run through three innings before things took a turn for the worst in the fourth. Two singles and an error loaded up the bases before King served up a grand slam to Brendan Rodgers to give the Rockies their first lead of the game. The damage didn't stop there, as King would then find himself with the bases loaded again in that same inning and walked in another run before finally being pulled. After flirting with a no-hitter his last time out, King had arguably his worst start of the year and has given mixed results through his first six outings. The 29-year-old now owns a 4.11 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 34:18 K:BB in 30.2 innings. He'll look to get back in the win column versus the Phillies this weekend.

Padres' Tucupita Marcano: Taking grounders

Marcano (knee) has been taking groundballs as he begins to ramp up his baseball activities, per MLB.com.
Marcano continues to rehab from the ACL surgery he underwent in August of last year. The 24-year-old was placed on the 10-day IL on March 19, so he'll be eligible to return as soon as he's physically ready to do so. Given that Marcano didn't see any spring training action, he'll likely require an extended rehab assignment in the minors before the Padres consider promoting him to the big-league roster.

Suarez entered in the ninth inning with San Diego up by two runs and found himself in some trouble when two of the first three batters he faced notched a hit. Suarez has now competed eight straight scoreless appearances, and he's given up just one run over 10.2 frames on the season. With eight saves, he is tied with Clay Holmes for first in the majors in that category.

Cease dominated the Rockies' lineup, yielding just one hit -- a fourth-inning Charlie Blackmon leadoff double that Colorado converted into its only run. The veteran hurler has notched a win in each of his past three starts, giving up just two earned runs and five hits while striking out 22 batters over 19 frames during that stretch. Cease's lack of free passes Monday was also a positive development after he had issued multiple walks in each of his first four starts of the campaign, including five in his previous outing. Cease's season ERA now sits at a sterling 1.82, which is tied for 10th in MLB among qualified starters.
The Padres recalled Batten from Triple-A El Paso on Monday.
The move comes with Manny Machado going on paternity leave. Batten has made one appearance in the majors this season, starting at first base and going 1-for-3 with a triple against the Brewers on April 17. With Triple-A El Paso this season, Batten is slashing .224/.318/.293 with one home run and nine RBI over 66 plate appearances, adding two stolen bases.
