UB hires new HR leader; Canisius names director of annual giving

UB adds HR exec

The University at Buffalo has named Christopher Delello associate vice president for human resources.

Delello, who begins in the position Oct. 1, was the chief human resources officer at the University of Connecticut. He will take over for Mark Coldren, who retired last year.

Delello will oversee employee benefits, payroll and employee relations. He previously also was a human resources director for Columbus McKinnon Corp. and vice president for human resources for the Yankee Candle Co.

He has an MBA from the University of Connecticut and a bachelor’s degree in industrial and labor relations from LeMoyne College.

Canisius names new director of annual giving

Canisius University appointed Brandon Bielecki, a Canisius graduate, director of annual giving, a role that will include planning and implementation of funding strategies for the school.

He’ll be responsible for meeting comprehensive fundraising goals, including the Blue & Gold Fund, reunion giving and crowdfunding efforts.

Bielecki has worked at Canisius since 2021. In his previous role, assistant director of annual giving and stewardship, he increased unrestricted funds raised by 36% annually and increased the school’s athletics funds by 33%.

He is also an adjunct instructor at Canisius’ Richard J. Wehle School of Business.

UB gets $3.4M to expand cybersecurity program

The National Science Foundation awarded UB a $3.4 million grant to continue CyberCorps: Scholarship for Service, a training program for cybersecurity experts.

The money will fund training for eight undergraduate and 16 graduate students over the next five years, and graduate cybersecurity experts from UB’s Center of Excellence in Information Systems Assurance Research and Education, according to a news release.

Since 2008, the center has received more than $10 million to run the CyberCorps program, and has graduated more than 45 people, who work for the FBI, CIA, Department of Homeland Security, National Security Agency, Federal Trade Commission and Office of the Inspector General.
