The NFL season is sadly over, with the Kansas City Chiefs capturing the first Super Bowl title in the era of Massachusetts sports betting. Now begins the countdown until the new season starts. And this got us thinking here at BetMassachusetts â what do people think of the New England Patriots and their fanbase?
The days of Tom Brady and endless Lombardi trophies are over, but that doesn't mean other fanbases are over the pain and suffering Brady and Bill Belichick inflicted across the NFL for two decades. And some Pats fans themselves still believe every year is title or bust as long as The Hoodie roams the sidelines.
To find this out, we collected data from folks across the U.S. to tell us what fans really think of different teams, including, but not limited to the Patriots, and if location affects this. Dallas Cowboys Fans Take The Title
The fans of the Dallas Cowboys take the crown for the cringiest fanbase among all those surveyed across the U.S., with 16.6% of fans stating so. The Cowboysâ fans are known to shed a whole lot of tears when losing a game, so itâs not a huge shock to the system.
Remember the famous âCrying Cowboys Fanâ? â a clip of a fan weeping this past season went viral, and this soon became a meme sensation, unfortunately for the Lone Star State.
Itâs not surprising other fanbases claim them as the cringiest, given the âAmericaâs Teamâ mantra that has dominated the NFL for 50 years.
Here's thinking the outspokenness of owner Jerry Jones and the steady national TV windows also have something to do with NFL fans being a little tired of the Cowboys faithful.
Rounding Out The Top Five
As well as Cowboys fans being titled the cringiest (in first place), Philadelphia Eagles fans took the second spot, at 9.9%, followed by Las Vegas Raiders supporters (8.6%), and then Patriots fans (7.6%). Finally, in fifth place, were Green Bay Packers fans, with 6.6% of votes.
Why The Pats? Why Not!
Patriots fans voted Dallas Cowboys supporters as the cringiest fanbase of all. They may be a little bitter since the Patriots playoff chances are quite low as of late.
The catch?
Pats fans arenât afraid to admit that they actually have the cringiest fanbase of all, as plenty of fans actually voted for themselves for this title. The Pats, among Pats fans, came in as the second-most cringey fanbase behind only Dallas, totaling 12.8%. Hey, Pats fans know how much they've won in recent years, and they know they demand a high bar! Good for them for looking in the mirror.
Meanwhile, only four other fan groups voted the Patriots as having the No. 1 cringiest fans. These were the loyal supporters of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (maybe Brady jealousy?) and Miami Dolphins, as well as fans from rival New York teams, the Giants and the Jets.
Naturally, devoted supporters are going to find their opposing teamsâ fanbase cringy, as thereâs always competition there. Perhaps, then, some of the votes by fans about other fans are grounded in competitiveness and rivalry.
After all, itâs no coincidence that two major rival fanbases voted for the Patriots as the cringiest overall!
A Final Note
Depending on the team you support, and the fanbase youâre a part of, you might have a very different view of where your favorite NFL team sits in terms of cringiness. Itâs a matter of opinion, after all! But itâs good to see what each fanbase thinks of the other, and whether these opinions will follow when the next NFL season comes around.
