This is the only book on RAD that you will ever need. I wish RAD was a recognized diagnosis in adults, as I suspect that large numbers of wounded adults are carrying the undiagnosed weight of this disorder. It's a misunderstood condition with wounds that are devastatingly far reaching. For those of us that suffer from reactive attachment disorder, this book is a godsend. It articulates the inner life of a person with RAD exceptionally well, and offers both education and guidance on treating the condition. I highly recommend this book for both suffers of RAD and for the people who love them.

I decided to start reading this tonight. I wish I had picked it up years ago. I was diagnosed with RAD at about 7 or 8 I believe and I'm in my 30s now. The book is about 350 pages or so and I had to make myself stop 100 pages or so in. It's given me a lot of perspective in the 100 pages on why my brain is the way it is. If you know someone with the disorder or you have it yourself I recommend reading this.

Pretty cheesy dialog, but then again I'm not a 40 something year old man. But very useful information in an easy to understand format.

This book was recommended to us by a counselor after we described our adopted daughters behavior. I cannot recommend this book enough, especially to foster/adoptive parents who may be dealing with issues that don't make sense. Mr. Sanford clearly defines thoughts and actions related to RAD in such a way that while I was thinking the main character did not define RAD for my daughter I was able to see other traits that she exhibited that pointed to RAD as a root cause. For those living with someone with RAD, I found the afterword particularly helpful as far as "what could I do to help". Highly recommend!

This book is fantastic if you want to know about how Reactive Attachment Disorder may affect adults. It is currently diagnosed in children 9 mos to 5 years of age, but this book helps one to understand how it can affect adults if it is not treated as a child. I suspect many, many people in jail and in gangs suffer from RAD. Written as a journal through the eyes of a 40ish man, this book helps convey the feelings and behavior of RAD sufferers.

This book, while nominally fictional, will give you a better feel for what it is like to struggle with reactive attachment disorder. Since it projects onto a single person so many real-life experiences, gathered by the author over a career of treating patients with RAD, that person comes to life and is more "real" than anecdotal snippets you will find in many other books.

This is a MUST READ BOOK for anyone trying to understand trauma and radical attachment disorder. In fact I am pretty sure this is one of the ONLY books on RAD. Tim Sanford is a genius and has formatted this book to replicate how someone with RAD or sever trauma thinks and process. I also used this book for research on children with trauma in the classroom. Loved this resource from start to finish. Mr. Sanford skillfully brings the reader into the mind of a person suffering with RAD. Excellent and eye-opening book and a must have for folks dealing with RAD or who have a family member...definitely a book for clinicians, who may be working with someone who has RAD.
