Using YouTube Videos in Google Classroom
-
Elementary and Middle School
Due to a change in YouTube Terms of Use, elementary and middle school students are unable to view YouTube videos (even those embedded in Google Slides and Nearpod). If you want to use a video that has already been approved and is already in AACPS Curriculum in a Google Classroom, you will need to download the video and then upload it to a Google Drive. Set the permissions to anyone with AACPS can view.
The directions that follow are for the videos that are linked in the AACPS Curriculum Guides. We have copyright permission to use these videos in our classrooms, including Google Classroom. The terms of use for YouTube do not support the download of videos that are not already approved in our curricula.
There is not one program that is guaranteed to download every YouTube video, but here are two that appear to be the most successful.
- Use https://ytcutter.com/. Here is a video on how to use this one. This will download the videos and you just upload them into Google Drive. https://www.wevideo.com/view/1675024672.
- Use https://ytmp3.cc/en13/. This will also download the videos and then you just upload them into Google Drive. https://www.wevideo.com/view/1675015265.

High School
Since by default we assume every high school student is 13, you can simply embed YouTube Videos into a Google Slide and it will play. Here is a video on how to do this. https://www.wevideo.com/view/1635960174
You could also save and then upload a video using the directions for Elementary and Middle.
If you have questions, please contact Shannon Pugh (spugh@aacps.org).
