COCHRAN, Ga. -- Middle Georgia State University(MGA) and Cochran Downtown Development Authority came together today to unveil a new mural.

The mural is at the corner of Second and Ash Streets. The mural that reads "Welcome to Cochran, Your Southern Home, Est. in 1869", is sure to catch both resident and visitor eyes when entering downtown.

Charlie Agnew Art Program Coordinator/Professor of Art at MGA along with art faculty members Luke Buffenmyer, and Shannon Riddle all painted the mural.

Agnew shares they started on the mural at the end of May and worked on it through the end of June. He says he knows this is only one of many plans Cochran Downtown Development Authority has to offer.

"They are looking to update downtown and the downtown development authority its trying to spruce up everything and they have projects in the work to get things to look good," said Agnew.

Vice Chair of the Downtown Development Authority Vinson Howell came up with the idea and the city reached out to the university to help make it happen.

Chairman of the City of Cochran Downtown Development Authority and the councilwoman Carla Coley shares that they are always looking for ways to partner with MGA.

"They bring so much value to our community and their students are part of our community so we had the opportunity to have this partnership where one of our directors actually did the artwork and then we partnered with middle Georgia to install the mural. We are looking forward to further projects in the future," said Coley.
