Perspectives on Multidisciplinary Care for Children with Autism Speaker Series Lecture: Roles of the PCP in Early Identification and Long-Term Management of Children with Autism

We will review the role of the primary care provider:
- In the early identification of children with autism including developmental surveillance and screening; and
- In long term management including the assessment and treatment of co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions.
About the speaker:
Paul Carbone is a general pediatrician with interest and expertise in the area of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related developmental disabilities. He currently holds the position of Professor within the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah. His general pediatric practice is within the University of Utah Neurobehavior HOME Program, a lifespan clinic that provides comprehensive medical and mental health services for individuals with ASD and other developmental disabilities. He is a current member of the Council on Children with Disabilities Autism Subcommittee of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Carbone has lectured extensively both locally and nationally around the topic of ASD and he is the co-editor of the book "Autism Spectrum Disorders: What Every Parent Needs to Know", published by the American Academy of Pediatrics. His research interests are in the areas of health services utilization and primary medical care for children with ASD.
About the Perspectives series:
This brand-new speaker series will focus on research and service/training models designed to make developmental care more accessible for children with autism and their families, presenting perspectives from a range of pediatric disciplines. Conducted via interactive webinar. All lectures, unless otherwise indicated, start at 12:00 p.m. CST and will occur quarterly.
This series is hosted by VUMC’s Division of Developmental Medicine.
