Indoor Soccer Rules 2023

Volo welcomes all players!

We strictly prohibit harassment of any kind.

BASIC RULES

Added Rule: Goalies can't throw past the mid court line

7 players on the court at a time (if the gym is deemed to small for 7v7 and coaches agree, it will be 6v6 as each gym is different)

Be Kind!

20 minutes per half, no overtime

Shin guards are not mandatory, but encouraged

No offsides

No sliding

Start time: Teams are to be at the field and signed in before the official game time. If a team is not at the field and ready to play at the scheduled game time, there will be a 10 minute grace period before the clock is started. It is recommended that teams arrive at the game site fifteen (15) minutes prior to the scheduled start time.

GAME PLAY

Game time: The game will consist of two (2) halves of twenty (20) minutes. The clock will only stop for official time-outs. The referee will determine if additional stoppage time is needed as well as the amount. The game will end at the referee??????¢??s discretion.

Substitutions:

Substitutions are unlimited, and can be made on the fly on the defensive side

The referee should be made aware of the substitution

Goal: A goal is scored when the entire ball passes over the goal line. A goal may not be scored from an indirect free kick, throw-in, or any free kick into a team??????¢??s own goal.

Goalkeepers:

No player should make contact when the goalkeeper has full possession of the ball.

The goalkeeper has six (6) seconds to clear the ball.

Goalkeepers may not use their hands when the ball is kicked directly to them by a teammate. The penalty is an indirect free kick from the nearest point outside the penalty box. If a goalkeeper mishandles the ball in the penalty area, an indirect kick is awarded to the other team.

Sliding: No form of sliding is permitted. The penalty is a yellow card. If the act is deemed intentional and/or dangerous, a red card may be issued.

Kick Ins:

Balls that hit off the ceiling or exit play will be put back into play via kick in..

The ball must not be moving when it is put back into play

All kick-ins are indirect

Free Kicks:

Free kicks are awarded after an offense outside of the penalty area. All free kicks, excluding PKs, are indirect.

All players conducting free kicks are allowed a 5-pace distance by the opposing team. Distance is provided at request

Penalty Kicks:

Penalty kicks are awarded against a team that commits an offense inside its own penalty area

Cautionable and Send-Off Offenses:

Yellow and red cards can be issued at the referees??????¢?? discretion to players flagrantly and/or persistently violating the rules of play.

A player that receives a yellow card will be dismissed from the field for 2 minutes.

A player that receives a red card is ejected from the game for the duration. No substitutions are permitted to replace them, and the team must play down a player

PLAYOFFS

All teams make playoffs

Sudden-death bracket format

Ties during Playoffs

Game goes into a Golden Goal where the next goal scored wins.

Weather Related Game Cancellation

Volo will notify players by email ahead of time if there is a cancellation due to weather

Suspended Games: if, due to weather conditions, safety conditions, or referee discretion, a game is halted prior to halftime, it will be replayed if possible

A game halted at half time or later will stand as indicated by the score when the game was halted

Unsportsmanlike conduct: Any unsportsmanlike conduct including, but not limited to, arguments with officials by any player, coach, manager, or spectator, flagrant fouling, fighting, etc. may result in expulsion of that individual and/or team from further participation in that scheduled game. Officials have the authority to impose penalties for teams behaving in an unsportsmanlike manner. Two (2) unsportsmanlike conduct penalties on the same player will result in an ejection. A red card will also result in an ejection. If two (2) players from the same team are ejected from a game (for sportsmanship related issues), that game will be ended, and that team will receive a loss regardless of the score and the time remaining.
