We’re pleased to share the results of VHA’s public opinion poll, which was conducted in partnership with CNU, and Congressional candidate survey. These studies were part of our CHACE campaign efforts and participation in the Our Homes, Our Votes campaign. Launched in 2017, VHA’s CHACE campaign works to inform voters, elected officials, and candidates on the importance of quality homes for Virginians at all income levels.

An overview of the results of the poll and candidate survey can be found below. The findings of these studies demonstrate that affordable housing is a key issue to voters and Congressional candidates alike. As the November elections approach, we look forward to sharing the results of the poll and candidate survey with those running in Virginia’s 11 Congressional elections.
Public Opinion Poll
In partnership with CNU’s Wason Center for Civic Leadership, VHA’s CHACE campaign conducted a poll of Virginia’s voters to gauge public opinion on housing issues. The results of this poll are based on 675 interviews with registered Virginia voters, conducted between March 29 and May 9, 2022. Read the full report here and the poll’s top line findings here. Key findings include:
79% of Virginia voters see housing affordability as a serious issue in their areas of Virginia.

64% of Virginia voters agree there are too few housing options for people working in low-wage jobs.

70% of Virginia voters agree that there are too few affordable places to rent.

71% of Virginia voters support expanding rental assistance to qualifying residents.
