In 2023, over 50 area high school students applied for 17 paid, part-time positions ranging from four to eight weeks under the direction of a scientist or engineer. The internships reflected a wide variety of job types in the blue economy. Selected students participated in hands-on training at USM campuses and teaching/research sites, including the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach, Stennis Space Center facility, and the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs.

Students interned in aquaculture, computer ocean modeling, hydrography, marine biology, and ocean engineering.
