The Super Bowl baby boom states

The Super Bowl is an American tradition, celebrated up and down the country by NFL fans and newbies no matter the two teams competing. In fact, almost 100 million people tuned into last year’s Championship game.

But do some states get swept up in the momentous occasion more than others, moving the party from the couch to the bedroom as soon as the final whistle blows? We decided to find out by ranking each state according to the number of babies born nine months after Super Bowl Sunday. We also analyzed the number of babies born in each state a full term after other significant annual events.

So, without further ado, read on to find out where your state ranks.

Which states see the greatest Super Bowl baby boom?

Taking top spot as the US state with the most babies conceived around the Super Bowl, we have the mountain state of Utah. In fact, the state recorded an incredible 1.101 births per 1,000 people in November 2021, nine months after the Bucs toppled the Chiefs.

Next up, Texas recorded a massive 1.083 births per 1,000 people, ahead of Louisiana and North Dakota (1.057), and South Dakota (1.042). Meanwhile, Oklahoma and Arkansas rank joint-sixth with a remarkable 0.994 new babies for every 1,000 potential parents, followed by Kansas (0.982), Indiana (0.973), and Mississippi (0.967).

Curiously, despite celebrating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Super Bowl success, Floridians rank 36th with just 0.845 births per 1,000 people. The host of last year’s Super Bowl, California (0.904), places 23rd, while this year’s host location Arizona (0.918) ranks 22nd.

Interestingly, though, despite ranking prominently for November babies, the months of August and September dominate for newborns, with six of the ten states above registering the most births in mid-late summer.

Which states see the greatest baby boom after other major events?

We’ve looked at the states that saw the greatest Super Bowl baby boom, but what about the other key events throughout the calendar? Utah stays on top across the board, but which other states conceive the most babies over spring break, Halloween, July 4th, Christmas, and Thanksgiving?

Spring break

Looking at the top ten states for spring break conceptions, there are some interesting additions. For instance, Nebraska and Tennessee rank 11th and 15th for November births but take 7th and 8th for December, with 1.030 and 1.020 births per 1,000 Americans, respectively.

At the other end of the table, though, despite popular spring break hotspots Miami Beach and Cancun being just a quick drive or flight away, Florida (0.881) only ranks 34th.

Halloween

Curiously, Alaska storms into second place with a remarkable 1.175 newborns per 1,000 during the month of July, nine months on from Halloween, ahead of North Dakota (1.114), South Dakota (1.113), and Texas (1.112).  Meanwhile, the likes of Florida (0.848), California (0.929), and New York (0.957) occupy the bottom half of the table.

Independence Day

Ranking each state according to the number of July 4th conceptions – or the number of babies born in April - Alaska (1.110) once again ranks highly, this time in third, behind only South Dakota (1.134) and Utah (1.168). Looking down the table, Texas (0.964) takes eighth, New York (0.873) ranks 30th, California (0.853) places 34th, and Massachusetts (0.815) comes 43rd.

Christmas

Joining Utah (1.211) among the states with the most births nine months after Christmas, we have South Dakota (1.147), Texas (1.147), and Alaska (1.140), while New England states Vermont (0.714), New Hampshire (0.786), Maine (0.798), and Rhode Island (0.836) prop up the bottom of our list.

Thanksgiving

Ranking each US state by the number of babies born nine months after Thanksgiving, we can reveal that people in Utah (1.252), Texas (1.140), and South Dakota (1.135) get the most amorous after a turkey dinner, followed by those from Alaska (1.114), North Dakota (1.112), and Arkansas (1.107). At the other end of the table, there are just 0.805 babies born in Maine in August, per 1,000 people.

Remarkably, Utah consistently ranks top for the number of babies born throughout the year, with the likes of Texas and Alaska also featuring prominently. For even more interesting insight like this, stay tuned to the Betway Insider USA.
