About International Experience Canada

If you’re a Canadian citizen aged 18 to 35, International Experience Canada (IEC) offers you the opportunity to work and travel abroad. We have agreements with over 35 countries and foreign territories providing a path to a work permit or visa for you to work and explore. Our agreements are reciprocal. This means that youth from these countries and territories can work and travel in Canada.

By taking part in IEC, you can

• gain valuable international work experience while earning money to fund your travels
• develop life skills that can also improve your résumé and job prospects for the future
• grow personally and professionally while working on your soft skills, such as confidence and problem-solving
• develop lifelong connections while working and travelling
• experience a different part of the world and learn more about other cultures
• develop and improve new language skills

To legally work abroad, you need to apply for a work permit from the country or territory that you’ll be working in. Depending on the destination, you may be able to work and travel for up to 2 years through the IEC program.
