I am an Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Yale School of Management, and a Faculty Affiliate of the Program on Entrepreneurship and the Computation and Society Initiative. I also co-organize the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Seminar.

My research examines evaluation processes—where individuals assess the quality of individuals, ideas, or work product—in market and organizational contexts to improve our empirical and theoretical understanding of stratification, careers, and entrepreneurship, with frequent overlap across these areas. A contribution of my work on evaluations is showing how the design and structure of evaluation processes contribute to inequality. I have shown this in contexts ranging from online platforms to entrepreneurship to hiring. In other related work, I use evaluation processes to understand entrepreneurship. In recent papers, I have shown how founder experience in high-tech startups affects founders’ careers and how employer failure is related to employees’ career outcomes. My research frequently draws on data I collect through collaborations with technology-focused startups and uses diverse methodologies, including field experiments.

This research has been published in Administrative Science Quarterly, Management Science, and Organization Science, and various media outlets have covered it; I have also written pieces for the Harvard Business Review and the London School of Economics Business Review based on this work. In 2024, Thinkers50 selected me as one of the 30 people whose ideas will make an important impact on management thinking in the future.

In my teaching, I recently redeveloped the MBA and EMBA core course on entrepreneurship and innovation (Innovator), and I was recognized as one of the Best 40 Under 40 Professors by Poets & Quants in 2020.

I earned my PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management in 2017, and my BA and BS from Providence College in 2007. Before entering academia, I worked in investment banking (e.g., M&A and capital raises) and strategic corporate finance.
