Columbus State Launches Search for Next Provost, Executive Vice President

Tuesday, February 6th, 2024

Columbus State University has officially begun the search for its next provost and executive vice president. The person in this position serves as second in command to the university president and leads the university’s academic enterprise. The position has been held on an interim basis since April 2022 by Dr. Pat McHenry.

"The search for Columbus State University’s next provost will be the most important hire I have the opportunity to make,” explained President Stuart Rayfield. “I am looking for a strategic partner who is focused on student and faculty success, while meeting the expectations and demands of higher education in a rapidly changing environment. CSU needs a person who is forward-thinking and innovative, with a deep appreciation of the value of our university’s mission and who has demonstrated servant leadership throughout their career."

As a senior university leader and member of the President’s Executive Leadership Team, the provost oversees a total Academic Affairs budget of $54.7 million and staff of more than 450 faculty and staff. Specifically, the position requires someone with an earned doctorate or terminal degree; a record of teaching, publication and service that would warrant appointment as a fully tenured professor in one of the university’s academic departments; experience administering tenure and promotion processes and policies; and proven financial acumen and strategic resource allocation in a complex environment.

The university’s next provost will be called upon to provide leadership to the Academic Affairs enterprise, implement and operationalize strategic and student success plans, foster curricular innovation and oversee the redesign of the university’s core curriculum, and foster a collaborative campus environment.

The search is being led by the executive search firm Buffkin / Baker, and a full search profile is available for download. Confidential inquiries, nominations and applications are invited. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled; however, for fullest consideration, applicants should submit a packet including a curriculum vitae and letter of application no later than March 1.
