Summer Workshop

The Marist Speech & Debate program is hosting an free afternoon workshop on campus on
Saturday, June 17th from 1:30pm to 3:30pm

Registration closes on June 15th.  We will send out information and logistics for workshop on June 15th.  We look forward to seeing you on campus!

Who is the workshop intended for?

The workshop will be open to teach any Marist students the fundamentals of debate.  The workshop is intended for any Marist student in 7th, 8th, 9th or 10th grade during the 2023-2024 school year. Our goal of the workshop is to help provide students an understanding of what our program does before they start the school year.  If they enjoy the workshop, they should consider taking a debate class at Marist and sign up for the competitive team.

What will the workshop teach?

The workshop will be designed to teach students a very basic fundamental understanding of what our program does.  We will split the time into different components where they learn what debate looks like,  how a topic would work and we will conclude the time with students participating in a practice debate.

Who will be leading the workshop?

The workshop will be led by our debate coaching staff with curriculum designed by the Director of Speech & Debate, Mr. Jeffrey Miller.  Our upperclassmen on the team who are nationally ranked (including some recent alumni) will be helping with some breakout activities and guiding students through each activity.
