The Baker Blast January 16, 2021

The One Troy Food Drive

Once again the ONE Troy community, with Baker leading the way came together to help feed our community through the ONE Troy Food Drive. Even though we were not able to run the Food Drive from Baker during the school day in person like we have in previous years, we expanded our efforts across the district and successfully acquired a large amount of food to support the Tina Houser Bridge the Gap Food Pantry at Morse Elementary.

The Tina Houser Bridge the Gap Food Pantry at Morse Elementary has a mission to feed families in our learning community. In regular times, they provide food to about a hundred families in Troy each week, but more recently, they have been supplementing food for thousands of families in TSD over the past 10 months. (Both those with school aged children and our vulnerable senior population.)

A big shout out goes to Joe Schmidt for his organizational efforts and commitment in making this an annual event that continues to grow with our need to address food insecurity. The large turnout is a credit to him and the people who volunteered from outside of Baker spreading the word using literature and film to share the story of food insecurity, as well as the various staff members in other buildings who took on our ONE Troy mission. As one person put it, they appreciate the “can-do (pun intended)” attitude and dedication of our Baker and ONE Troy Family.

Upcoming Dates

MLK Jr. Celebrations & Service in his Name: Monday 1/18/21

Unfortunately the pandemic has forced us to cancel the ONE Troy annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration and Day of Service. This is an annual event that brings together thousands of stakeholders from our city, our schools and our residents to honor the legacy of Dr. King through service to the community. It is a tradition that many of us look forward to every year.

Though we are deeply disappointed that we can’t gather together, it is still vitally important for our community to find ways to recognize Dr. King and his achievements toward equality. We are hopeful that you and your family have an opportunity to continue our tradition of participating in a service opportunity. If you are looking for ways to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., please reference the two opportunities below.

Yearbook Order Information

Hello Baker Families,

Mrs. Traver here. Because of this crazy COVID-19 year, we are in dire need of your help in getting photos for the yearbook. Normally, students would be going around taking photos, but that can obviously not happen this year, so we need to find another way.

You can help by sending photos. We’d like to see them and include them in our yearbook. It can be anything from this year. For example something you did over the summer, hanging with friends, life at home, a great selfie, what you did on break… Whatever! Help us get as many photos as possible to create a terrific book everyone will want to have.

You can submit them to the link below

Video Submission Instructions

  • To select multiple images, press your CTRL (or CMD key) while making your image selections.
  • To ensure high quality printing in the yearbook, please provide only high-resolution images. Images can be uploaded in JPEG, TIFF, or PNG file format.

I Can’t wait to see your photos, and I want to thank you so much for helping us out. You are so appreciated!

Have a great day,

Mrs. Traver, Yearbook Advisor
