Ensembles

Eckstein Bands are made up of three main groups: concert bands, jazz bands, and drumline

Jazz Groups
(playing jazz music on, usually, traditionally jazz instruments)

Junior Jazz Band (After School) (G) – Mr. Escobedo – This group meets after school, Tuesday and Thursday, 3:25 – 5:00p. No experience required, students join by letting Mr. E know they're interested. It's okay to miss occasional rehearsals, just try your best to attend. If you are busy for a season, you may join junior jazz later in the year. Members of Jazz Band A are also welcome for extra jazz play!

Jazz Band A (Intermediate) (D) – Mr. Escobedo – This group meets in Mr. E's intermediate jazz class, registration is required. Students join by teacher recommendation, let Mr. E know if you're interested. This band plays jazz music, and all members of this band also play concert band charts as part of Intermediate Concert Band. Their jazz events are listed under (D) and their concert events are listed under (C.)

Jazz Band B (Senior) (I) – Mr. Escobedo – This group meets in Mr. E's senior jazz class, registration is required. Students join by teacher recommendation, let Mr. E know if you're interested. This is the top Jazz Ensemble (aka “Senior Jazz.”)

Mr. E will help with homeroom registration. Throughout the year students may have opportunity to join smaller groups of jazz players known as “jazz combos.” These ensembles practice together before school and after school and on weekends, depending on player availability. They are largely organic in nature; students will decide on their own to play together, and will reach out to Mr. E to think about who they can invite to play with them. Combos are an opportunity for your child to take initiative and develop self-regulation and the coordination, collaboration and relational skills essential for combo self-management. Please encourage your child to develop relationships in Jazz Band and reach out!

Vocal Jazz Combo (L) – Mr. Escobedo –  This group meets in Mr. E's homeroom class. Students join by teacher recommendation, let Mr. E know if you're interested. Mr. E will help with homeroom registration. One small combo of students that are selected by Mr. Escobedo.
