Hello!

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the National University of Singapore. 

My primary research interest is in democratization in East and Southeast Asia, with a specific focus on the role of opposition parties. My research is has been published or is forthcoming in disciplinary journals such as the American Journal of Political Science, Party Politics, Democratization, Government and Opposition, Electoral Studies, as well as more regionally-focused journals such as the Journal of East Asian Studies, Asian Survey, and Contemporary Southeast Asia. 

I received my PhD in Political Science at Emory University in 2018, and the MPhil in Politics (Comparative Government) from St. Antony's College, University of Oxford in 2012. I graduated from Singapore Management University in 2010 with a Double Degree in Business Management (BBM) and Social Science (BSocSc).

My research has been funded by the Singapore Social Science Research Council, the Singapore Ministry of Education Tier 1 Grant, the U.S. Fulbright Program, National University of Singapore's Development Fund, Overseas Postdoctoral Fellowship and Overseas Graduate Scholarship, as well as the Southeast Asia Research Group's (SEAREG) Pre-Dissertation Fellowship. 

I was a previously a Fulbright Visiting Fellow in Fall 2023 at the Council on Southeast Asia Studies at Yale University, and a Postdoctoral Fellow from 2018-2020 at the Center for Southeast Asia Research at the University of British Columbia. I was named a Dan David Prize 2019 Scholar in the field of "Defending Democracy," and a 2018 Young Southeast Asia Fellow by SEAREG.

My book, Opposing Power: Building Opposition Alliances in Electoral Autocracies, is published by the University of Michigan Press, under the Weiser Center for Emerging Democracies book series. It is available as hardcover, paperback, or free for open access online download.
