Welcome to our catalog of free wellness workshops for Friday, March 8, 2024, celebrating our 4th Annual NHPS SEL Day!

A special thank you to New Haven Public Schools Superintendent Madeline Negrón, Executive Director of Student Services Typhanie Jackson, and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Coordinator Monica Abbott! We would also like to thank the SEL Day planning committee, our community partners, NHPS SEL Educator Ambassadors, NHPS SEL Student Ambassadors, and NHPS staff presenters.

What is SEL Day?
Now in our fourth year, this event began in 2021 as a result of teaching and learning remotely. The community pulled together to offer a day to promote wellness and hope by providing opportunities to gather in virtual SEL-themed workshops, at a time when so many needed to embrace more opportunities to be in the company, albeit virtual, of our greater community. We thank all who have participated along the way in promoting social emotional learning and wellness!
Our NHPS SEL Day aligns with the theme of this year's International SEL Day, which is also celebrated on March 8, 2024: Today's Students, Tomorrow's Leaders
In additional to live virtual workshop opportunities, community partners will be leading SEL activities in person at many of our schools, including: dance, art creation, self love, read alouds, and more!

SEL Day 2024 is a day for all students and staff to promote wellness and the 5 Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills:

Educators - To plan your day ahead of time ...
Option 1 - Live Virtual SEL Sessions:
Based on your school schedule and the workshops listed for your age group on this website, you may want to provide your students with a few workshop options to stream in your classroom on March 8, and vote as a class on which workshop your class may enjoy. Grade-level teams may want to collaborate with planning in order to offer additional student choice for the day.

Option 2 - Alternative SEL Video Activities:
In addition to live workshops, the district SEL Team is providing short video options that can be streamed at your convenience on March 8 - choice boards with video activities for PreK-Grade 2, Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8, and Grades 9-12.
Option 3 - Alternative SEL Classroom Activities:
In addition to live workshops, the district SEL Team is providing examples of classroom activities and lessons to consider planning for March 8 - SEL activity ideas here.
The safety and wellbeing of our students is our top priority.
Appropriate behavior is expected from all participants. Facilitators/hosts of sessions reserve the right to remove anyone not adhering to expectations of safety and kindness.
