Art at Abbott

At Abbott Tech all juniors and seniors will take art 3 times a week while they are in shop cycle.

Upon successful completion of both years of art, students will have earned 1 fine arts credit that is required to graduate.

It is our hope that the students will develop an appreciation for art and its importance in our daily lives. The concept of creativity, artistic literacy and problem solving are part of the art classroom and important for lifelong learning in all areas. We are surrounded by art all day and make artistic decisions every day. Participation in fine art classes helps students think creativity, with risk taking, new ways to problem solve, and inventiveness

Art 1 and Art 2 are studio art classes.

Art 1

Art 1 is taken junior year. During Art 1 students will work on drawing skills, painting skills, and how to use a variety of art media. They will also learn the critiquing process, begin to keep a sketchbook, and learn about various artists and art history.

Art 2

Art 2 is taken senior year. During Art 2 students will use what they learned the previous year to create artwork that is personal in nature. Students are given more choices with materials and subjects for their own artwork. Critiquing and art history continue to be a part of the art class.
