Rick Scott bashes Biden and Democrats on welfare allegations: ‘A very confused president’

Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) bashed President Joe Biden and Democrats over their allegations that he plans to cut spending on welfare programs.

In an op-ed for the Washington Examiner, Scott called allegations that he planned to cut spending for Social Security and Medicare a “disingenuous Democrat lie from a very confused president.”

Scott wrote that he has never and would never support cutting the programs. He also wrote that Biden previously proposed nearly identical measures to those he is proposing in his “Rescue America” plan.

He laid out his plan in simpler terms.

SEN. RICK SCOTT SLAMS MCCONNELL IN FIGHT OVER MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY

“Everyone outside of Washington perfectly understood what my plan was trying to accomplish, but that hasn’t stopped Washington politicians from doing what they do best — lying to you every chance they get,” he wrote.

“So, since the folks up here are clearly too confused and disingenuous to get it, I’ll put it down in black and white so they can read it or have someone read it to them. I believe that all federal legislation should sunset in five years, with specific exceptions of Social Security, Medicare, national security, veterans’ benefits, and other essential services. If a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again,” he continued.

He also accused Biden of wanting to cut welfare programs, pointing to previous quotes in which he appeared to propose just that.

“When I argued that we should freeze federal spending, I meant Social Security as well. I meant Medicare and Medicaid. I meant veterans’ benefits. I meant every single solitary thing in the government,” Biden was quoted as saying.

Scott also took a pass at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), implicitly accusing him of being complicit in the Democrats’ claims.

“I have never supported cutting Social Security or Medicare, ever. To say otherwise is a disingenuous Democrat lie from a very confused president. And Sen. McConnell is well aware of that. It’s shallow gotcha politics, which is what Washington does,” he added. “These are leaders of the Washington status quo who are more than happy to watch the country fall deeper and deeper into debt and further and further into the Democrats’ woke, liberal nightmare if they can maintain their hold on power.”

Scott has undergone fierce attacks from Democrats and the president. Biden took a rare trip to Florida last week to attack the Florida senator’s Rescue America plan, claiming it would include cuts to Medicare and Social Security.

Scott has also been embroiled in a feud with McConnell in recent weeks. The Senate leader denounced Scott’s Rescue America plan as “a bad idea.”

Scott concluded his op-ed by calling for a “new vision.”

“I put out my Rescue America plan because we can’t keep doing what we’re doing. We need change. We need new ideas and a new vision. The establishment in Washington has failed, and they’re the only ones who don’t realize it,” he wrote.
