Cheerleading Assistant Coach

Our Full-time Cheerleading Assistant  Coach is responsible for assisting with the coaching and administrative duties of the cheerleading program. The candidate will assist the head coach with scheduling, organizing, and conducting cheer practices. They will help coordinate the cheer, dance, and mascot squads’ roles on game days. The focus of the assistant coach is to help increase skill levels for game day and national performances, assist with recruitment, and fundraising.


Duties:

  • Assist the head coach with scheduling, organizing, and conducting cheer practices and with competition preparation
  • Recruiting: coordinate recruiting activities including emails, phone calls, and letters, maintain the recruit database, and manage social media
  • Academics: monitor academic progress of players
  • Spiritual Development: Commitment to Christ-like character and service. Assist/lead Bible studies and mentor players
  • Game Day Management: responsibilities as assigned by the Athletic Department.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Work schedule may include: early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Attending all home games: Football, Men’s, and Women’s basketball games, and select special events, unless prior arrangements have been made with the head coach.
  • Experience on collegiate cheer team(s) with game day and competitive experience.
  • Experience with teaching tumbling and stunting/college-level pyramids.
Requirements

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 2 years of experience as a cheerleading coach
  • Student-athlete experience, at the collegiate level, is preferred

  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of cheerleading programs at the collegiate level
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of coaching.
  • Effective communicator in both written and oral communication.
  • Ability to deliver their knowledge to and instruct student-athletes in an effective manner.
  • Knowledge of safety and first aid techniques.
  • Skill in identifying problems, evaluating alternatives and implementing effective solutions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with a diverse population.
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications and electronic mail.
  • Ability to instruct in those applicable areas of certification.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical Environment: Work is routinely performed both indoor and outdoor, in office environment and in gyms, on playing fields, and other recreational environments. 

Physical Demands: Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, running, jumping, kneeling, pushing and pulling, climbing, stooping, occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds, travel to and from athletic events.

Sensory Attention: May require near vision for computer utilization and far vision for competition statistics. Also, must have quick reflexes that will allow for instant game analysis.

Mental Demands: Fast paced environment. May experience stress and anxiety working in high-pressure situations or working with student athletes who may themselves be exhibiting stress and anxiety.
