About the Organization The Pension Boards-United Church of Christ, Inc. an Affiliated Ministry of the United Church of Christ ('UCC'), provides retirement, disability, life insurance, medical, dental, and vision benefits for clergy and lay employees of the UCC, its predecessor religious denominations, and UCC-related organizations, through the administration of retirement and other benefit plans. As an Affiliated Ministry of the UCC, the Pension Boards is able to serve all other ministries of the UCC. The Pension Boards also acts as the investment-holding corporation and manages investments in commingled pools of common investment types.

Description

The Pension Boards Summer Internship Program is a ten-week paid internship that runs from June 6th to August 19th, 2022. Our exclusive program will engage and select the brightest students from some of the best colleges in New York and beyond to experience and delve into the Pension Boards' core areas of work including Investments, Finance, Member Services, Information Technology, Internal Audit, Health Plans, Marketing and Communications. This opportunity provides students with:

Location - this program is a hybrid internship which is virtual and based out of our NYC Location - 475 Riverside Drive, near Columbia University and Barnard College. The Pension Boards does not offer reimbursements for relocation, housing or commuting costs.

Position Summary

The United Church Board of Ministerial Assistance is seeking an intern for the Summer 2022 to provide support to the Fundraising department on its ongoing improvements in operational policies, procedures, and management tools. This intern will work with the Philanthropy Officer and interact with various programs management staff and other business units across the Pension Boards. This internship supports The Ministerial Assistance strategic plan, which is intended to enable the organization to operate efficiently as it moves toward services and program growth.

What you'll do:

  • Assist the Philanthropy Officer to identify opportunities to streamline operational procedures, update policies and procedures to improve data entry and management and compliance tools and capabilities
  • Assist in the fundraising process at all stages, including inputting and acknowledging gifts and maintaining accurate and timely records in our fundraising management system
  • Assist in the management of active and prospect donor's portfolio of individuals and corporations
  • Maintain current fundraising database, including data entry and integrity of gift registry, organization, and individual constituent records
  • Assist in researching grants or funding opportunities for which UCBMA is eligible
  • Keep track of grant application deadlines and submit applications as directed by the Philanthropy Officer
 
Position Requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree (in progress) in Finance, Computer Science, Non- Profit Administration or related discipline preferred
  • Strong organizational and project management skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail
  • Understanding the importance of compliance in the project management cycle
  • Knowledge of Raisers Edge and NXT or similar fundraising software preferred
  • Excellent computer skills (Advanced MS Office skills, Dashboards and Reporting Tools, Relational Database) Experience in using project management tools
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; exceptional interpersonal skills, a focused listener
  • Familiar with the grant writing process to assist the fundraising to respond to RFPs
  • Ability to take initiative and manage projects assigned through completion with minimal supervision
  • Ability to think critically, act decisively, and synthesize program and operational issues
  • Creative and innovative thinker, who actively presents new opportunities, proposes solutions, and recommends best practices
  • A self-starting, enthusiastic, and flexible approach to the organization and the position
  • Exhibits a positive attitude and professional demeanor with excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and tight deadlines.
