About the Organization The Pension Boards-United Church of Christ, Inc. an Affiliated Ministry of the United Church of Christ ('UCC'), provides retirement, disability, life insurance, medical, dental, and vision benefits for clergy and lay employees of the UCC, its predecessor religious denominations, and UCC-related organizations, through the administration of retirement and other benefit plans. As an Affiliated Ministry of the UCC, the Pension Boards is able to serve all other ministries of the UCC. The Pension Boards also acts as the investment-holding corporation and manages investments in commingled pools of common investment types.

Description

 

The Pension Boards Summer Internship Program is a ten-week paid internship that runs from June 6th to August 19th, 2022. Our exclusive program will engage and select the brightest students from some of the best colleges in New York and beyond to experience and delve into the Pension Boards’ core areas of work including Investments, Finance, Member Services, Information Technology, Internal Audit, Health Plans, Marketing and Communications. This opportunity provides students with:

 

  • A hands-on learning experience working on challenging projects with industry leaders
  • Becoming an ambassador for our 108-year-old organization
  • Offering insight and ideas that will be incorporated into our future plans
  • Professional mentorship and one-on-one development interactions
  • Networking and an environment conducive for building relationships with colleagues

Location – this program is a hybrid internship which is virtual and based out of our NYC Location – 475 Riverside Drive, near Columbia University and Barnard College. The Pension Boards does not offer reimbursements for relocation, housing or commuting costs.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Develop and expand your knowledge of Healthcare Administration through our portfolio of self-funded health and welfare benefit plans
  • Collaborate with our nationwide business vendor/partners to gain insight into preparation of benefit schedules, claims processing procedures, provider network development and contracting
  • Request, summarize, and analyze data for the 2023 premium rate development process
  • Work with Health Plans Team to review and update website content regarding benefit plans
  • Complete a Term Paper: “Compare and Contrast: Self-funded and Fully-Insured Health Plans”
  • Work with cross functional teams to solve a business problem from ideation to launch
  • Establish and maintain ongoing relationships with colleagues
  • Prepare materials for internal presentations, memos and projects
  • Perform other related duties as requested

 

 
Position Requirements
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Finance or related discipline preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to think and work independently within a professional setting
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Flexibility to work within a multiple disciplinary team and receive dynamic on-the-job training
  • Organizational skills; ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
