Center on Race and Social Problems

Calling all SSW Faculty, Students and Staff! CRSP is looking for collaborators for a new initiative!

The Center on Race and Social Problems (CRSP) is partnering with the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh through the creation of a new Policy and Research Committee.

We are currently seeking interested SSW faculty, students and staff to participate in an impactful initiative aimed at creating a "State of Black Pittsburgh Report."  We are currently assembling workgroups to comprehensively assess and analyze the socio-economic landscape of the African-American community in Pittsburgh. This collaborative effort will examine key areas of importance and propose actionable solutions by incorporating existing data where possible while also examining where new data needs to be gathered.

The report will focus on five critical dimensions—Education and Youth Empowerment, Economic Empowerment, Health and Quality of Life Empowerment, Civic Engagement Empowerment, and Civil Rights and Racial Justice Empowerment. By addressing these dimensions, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of and suggest ways to improve the state of Black Pittsburgh. We are hoping to engage faculty, students and staff in the SSW in this effort to join workgroups that align with your areas of research/scholarship.

If you are interested, please email Dr. Kyaien Conner (koc25@pitt.edu) and/or John Ukenye, Advocacy and Policy Officer at the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh (jukenye@ulpgh.org). We are still in the planning phases but please see the attached PDF for a one-pager that will provide more information.
