“All that I do is to be able to help students — that has always been at the forefront of my mind — teach, educate and mentor students as well.”

Bachelor of Social Work Program Director;
Assistant Professor of Social Work, Penn State Greater Allegheny

Meteorology originally appealed to Christopher Robinson as a career avenue, but he changed his mind once he understood social work as a peer educator for Healthy Babies-Healthy Start.

When he came to Pittsburgh in 2006 to earn his master’s degree, he opted to stay. Robinson views himself as a servant leader and has wide-ranging community impact and part of his academic research focuses on creating equitable educational opportunities for students attending community colleges and historically Black colleges and universities.

Robinson, who has a doctorate in education, is an undergraduate alum from the historically Black Jackson State University in Mississippi and credits his Iota Phi Theta fraternity for much of his professional accomplishments.

He estimates instructing hundreds of students as the founding director of the Penn State Greater Allegheny social work program in McKeesport — the only one of its kind in the Penn State University system — which provides a generalist-practice curriculum to ready learners for the workforce.
