The Virtual Workshop will be led by NOCCA Faculty, Dr. Hristo Birbochukov, Artist Teacher of Piano and Chair of the Classical Instrumental Department at NOCCA. The Performance Class is designed as a Masterclass group-learning experience, where a small group of students perform for each other, receiving highly valuable feedback from the Artist-Teacher, as well as support and encouragement from their peers. The Workshop-Masterclass will include three sessions and will culminate with a Virtual Live Performance streamed over Zoom from students’ own homes that will be virtually attended by current NOCCA Classical Instrumental students and faculty.
All prospective Virtual Piano Performance Workshop students must send a video link with their performance along with their application. To be considered students should apply by filling this online Application Form and share YouTube link(s) of one or two audition pieces by midnight on Wednesday, December 15. Videos taken by cell phones and other non-professional video devices are acceptable. Selected students will be notified by the end of Friday, December 17, 2021.
The audition repertoire must include one or two pieces from the main historical periods -- Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th and 21st Centuries. Examples of the recommended minimum repertoire level include: Sonatinas by Köhler, Latour, Lunes, Spindler, Clementi, Kuhlau, etc., Burgmüller Op. 100, Tchaikovsky - Album for the Young Op. 39, Schumann - Album for the Young Op. 68, Khachaturian - Children’s Album Book 1 & 2, Bach - Little Preludes and Fugues, Two-Part Inventions, etc., with more advanced repertoire being suggested. https://files.rcmusic.com//sites/default/files/files/RCM-Piano-Syllabus-2015.pdf). The audition repertoire should be selected from pieces that the student is currently working on and must be the same as the repertoire that the student will be mastering during the Workshop. Single movements from multi-movement pieces are acceptable. Memorization is suggested but not required.
Free to apply & free to participate if selected. No more than 4-6 students will be chosen. Current NOCCA Classical Instrumental students and previous participants in a Virtual Piano Workshop in a previous year are not permitted to take part in this Workshop. Participation in the workshop does not guarantee admittance into any regular program offered by NOCCA.
