The New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), Louisiana’s Arts Conservatory, invites intermediate and advanced classical violin and viola students in Louisiana to participate in a Virtual Performance Workshop. Talented, motivated, and serious violin and viola students, grades 4th through 10th, with a minimum of 2 years experience playing violin/viola may be considered for the class and are chosen for acceptance by audition. Free to apply & free to participate if selected.
Application deadline (including audition video submissions): Wednesday, December 15, 2021
Accepted students notified: Friday, December 17, 2021
Date and time of classes: Saturdays, January 8, 15, 22, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
Date and time of Virtual Performance: Friday, January 28, at 4:00 PM
The audition process includes filling an online Application Form and sharing YouTube video link(s). Examples of the recommended minimum repertoire level include: Pieces from Violin Suzuki Book 3, Viola Suzuki Book 2, or a standard étude for the instrument (e.g. Wohlfahrt, Hofmann, Whistler, Dont, Mazas, Kreutzer, etc.). Solo pieces from other teaching methods and composers are also acceptable, with more advanced repertoire being suggested. The audition selections cannot be excerpts or individual parts from orchestral works. Applicants should demonstrate proper posture and hand position for their instrument. The audition repertoire must be selected from pieces that the student is currently working on and will be mastering during the Workshop. Single movements from multi-movement pieces are acceptable. Memorization is not required. Videos taken by cell phones and other non-professional video devices are acceptable. Selected students will be notified by the end of Friday, December 17, 2021. Current NOCCA Classical Instrumental students are not permitted to take part in this Workshop.
The Virtual Workshop will be led by Dr. Zorica Dimova, an Artist-Teacher at the Classical Instrumental Department at NOCCA. The Workshop is designed as a Masterclass group-learning experience, where a small group of students (4-6) perform for each other, receiving highly valuable feedback from the instructor, as well as support and encouragement from their peers.
Free to apply & free to participate if selected. No more than 4-6 students will be chosen. Participation in the workshop does not guarantee admittance into any regular program offered by NOCCA.
The Strings Performance Virtual Classes will take place on three Saturdays in January 2022, (January 8, 15, 22) between 10:00-11:30 AM and will culminate with a Virtual Live Performance on Friday, January 28, at 4:00 PM streamed over Zoom from students’ own homes that will be virtually attended by current Classical Instrumental students and faculty. In case of last minute schedule conflicts or illness of the instructor, other dates may be selected for the classes and the performance. We reserve the right to cancel or postpone the Workshop due to insufficient enrollment or unforeseen circumstances.
Important: Please make sure to share your YouTube audition video link(s) in the online application form. In order to be considered, please do not submit forms without audition videos.
