Race &... Conference

Our CRSP team had a BLAST at the annual Race &... Conference last Friday! CRSP Director Dr. Kyaien Conner delivered a fantastic keynote address titled "Collaboration, Innovation and Teamwork: The Building Blocks for Solving Complex Social Problems" complete with African dancing and singing!

CRSP Associate Director, Ron Idoko gave a rapid talk presentation on the United Nations Collaboratory: an expansive racial equity data collection and analysis platform to support the development of a vision-rich, globally comprehensive, and process-oriented declaration at the United Nations 2024 fall General Assembly.

Democracy in Focus

CRSP and Frederick Honors College's first "Democracy in Focus" event featuring FHC Artist-in-Residence Morgan Overton and Euguene DePasquale was a huge success! We are grateful for all those who participated and made this a fruitful discussion and creative art space.

Morgan's next workshop focusing on "advocacy" will take place on Thursday, October 26th in the Understory of the Cathedral of Learning from 7-9 pm. Register here

Changemakers in Conversation with SpearIt

Changemakers in Conversation with SpearIt was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who attended.

SpearIt discussed his newest book titled: "Muslim Prisoner Litigation - An Unsung American Tradition." There was a moderated conversation with Pitt Professor, Brock Bahler (Teaching Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies at the Department of Religious Studies) and an opportunity for the audience to ask questions and engage!

Changemakers in Conversation - October 17th

Join us virtually on Tuesday, October 17th from 1:30-2:30 pm for Changemakers in Conversation with Mayor Ed Gainey.

Director of the Center on Race and Social Problems, Dr. Kyaien Conner, will be interviewing the Mayor and discussing topics surrounding equity, justice and civic engagement.

The Center on Race and Social Problems team is partnering with:    Kevin Smith and the Film and Media Studies program                            Celeste Welsh and the Pitt Athletics department                            Frederick Honors College

CivWiz Playtest - October 18th

CivWiz, a Changemaker's Media Lab initiative, is an innovative and interactive mobile app designed to promote civic engagement, awareness, and education among the University community and beyond. Join us on Wednesday, October 18th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in 2017 Cathedral of Learning to play test the app. There will be food!

Envisioning A Just Pittsburgh - Call for Diverse Art

 

We are excited to call all members of the Pittsburgh community at large to submit creative works of all kinds to help us envision a just Pittsburgh. This initiative will culminate during a series of showcases and performances in early 2024. All entries are eligible for cash awards and distinctions to acknowledge outstanding contributions to the showcase. All submissions are due by October 20, 2023. NEW Podcast: Let's Talk Social Innovation

The Center on Race and Social Problems is excited to announce our new Changemakers Media Lab podcast: Let’s Talk Social Innovation hosted by Pitt student Ian Kehinde! Episodes drop weekly on Monday afternoons!

“Let's Talk Social Innovation” believes in the power of transformative conversations to drive meaningful change in our communities. This podcast serves as a platform for University members and community leaders to come together and discuss the inspiring work they are doing in the realm of social innovation.

NEW Social Work Podcast: Healing Overflow with Dr. Toy

The host, Dr. Toya Jones is a licensed clinical social worker, trauma expert, therapist, faculty member, and director for the Pitt School of Social Work Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work (BASW) program. Dr. Toy will share self-improvement tips to enlighten listeners and viewers with the “Ask a Therapist” segment.
