Preliminary design of Nine Mile Bridge, which is still in development and subject to change

The city is leading the design and construction work on a pedestrian bridge over Parker Road near Interstate 225 to connect the RTD Nine Mile Station with homes and businesses on the north side of Parker Road. Federal funding awarded in 2019 has enabled this long-desired project to move forward. The bridge will provide improved regional multi-modal connectivity, enable people to cross safely over Parker Road and improve traffic flow along this major metro-area corridor.

Please note: Design is complete on this project. However, construction is currently on hold until additional funding can be identified to address project cost increases related to current market conditions.

Seattle based designer/infrastructure specialist Vicki Scuri was selected, through the city’s community-based selection process managed by the Art in Public Places Program, to create integrated design enhancements for the new bridge. Through a community outreach process in 2021, Vicki learned more about the values and interests of Aurora’s residents, and in particular, those who live and work in the areas surrounding this bridge project. Through this process, community members provided input into the enhancements will help illustrate how Aurora defines itself and is seen by others. Thank you to all who contributed to that process. You may continue to find updates here.
