This gallery contains cookbooks and recipes that specifically target participants of FDPIR. Resources come from including ITOs, non-profit organizations, and the USDA. Cookbooks and recipes can be used to provide participants with ideas on how to utilize foods found in their FDPIR food package.

Nutrition-related chronic disease (diabetes, cancer, and heart disease) impacts many and can be prevented through living a healthy lifestyle including physical activity and proper nutrition. In an ever-changing world with a complicated food supply, nutritional knowledge is more important than ever to support healthy behavior change. The ITCM has initiated this compendium of culturally appropriate materials to increase both the knowledge and the consumption of healthy traditional foods to prevent disease and to achieve improved health.

Indigenous foods are nutritious, well-adapted to local climates, and serve an important role in traditional foodways. These recipes show you how to add foraged and Indigenous foods to foods available through USDA’s Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR). Recipes are categorized by region:

Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians
The Cherokee Tribal Food Distribution Program has a great collection of healthy recipes organized by meal type. In addition, you can learn how to pronounce each meal in the native Cherokee language by clicking on the words on the webpage to hear the pronunciation.

USDA Foods Product Information Sheets and Recipes

Staff who operate USDA Foods programs and participants can use this information to help prepare healthy meals. Each product information sheet includes a description of the USDA Foods product, storage tips, nutrition facts, and recipes that use the product.

Consumers can also access over a thousand healthy, budget-friendly recipes through the MyPlate Kitchen available in English and Spanish.
