Here are the top five stories today in Loganville-Grayson:

  1. Georgia Gwinnett College was recognized with an inaugural Diversity and Inclusive Excellence Award, which recognizes the efforts of a university's career services office or employer member. The college received the award for its program, 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? A Conversation on Diversity in the Workplace.' The acting director of GGC's Career Development and Advising Center, Sherrie Goodman, said the event "allowed participants to share their own experiences in...a safe space." (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
  2. Two Gwinnett County brothers have been charged with the shooting of a 15-year-old boy during an argument that occurred in Lawrenceville. Gwinnett Police SWAT and officers arrested Jaden Hull and his 16-year-old brother, and they found a 9mm handgun after the arrest. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, but his current condition is unknown. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  3. Vols' linebacker target, Jalen Smith of Grayson High School in Loganville, is scheduled to reveal his college commitment on July 10 at 6 p.m. He has received scholarship offers from at least 40 schools and is taking official visits to Virginia, Tennessee, Texas, and Pittsburgh. According to 247Sports, Smith is ranked no. 437 overall prospect and no. 39 linebacker in the class of 2023. (247Sports)
  4. Kroger announced a new partnership with Market Wagon in the metro Atlanta area. This will give customers access to over 60 farms, chefs, and artisans, as well as 1,150 products from Kroger Farmers Market and delivery services. Other providers include D&B Farm and Livestock in Loganville, Piedmont Kitchen Co. in Atlanta, and 7W Farm in Winston. (CBS 46)
  5. Gwinnett County Public Schools are finalizing a 'Blueprint For The Future' strategic plan that highlights empathy and equity. Superintendent Dr. Calvin J. Watts said, "The blueprint synthesizes the findings and the recommendations from prior continuous improvement and strategic planning efforts." The county school board will vote on the plan at its July meeting. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)

  • The Gwinnett County Public Library congratulates nine graduates of the Gwinnett County Public Library's Career Online High School. The students went back to school to earn diplomas while balancing jobs, families, and children. This program is one of many offered for free to the community.   • Dementia Friends Georgia will be holding a free webinar on June 22 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. as part of Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month. The webinar will educate viewers on dementia and discuss how to become a Dementia Friend by turning understanding of the disease into action. (Eventbrite)
  • The Gwinnett County Public Library Snellville Branch will be hosting Story Camp Fridays: Make A Zine on June 24 at 2 p.m. Come join the staff in learning about zines and using creative writing skills to make your own! (Gwinnett County Public Library via Instagram)
