Funding Comes From The Newest Round Of the Highly Competitive Airport Terminal Grant Program
Schumer, Gillibrand: Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Is Helping Buffalo Niagara International Airport Reach New Heights
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has just awarded Buffalo Niagara International Airport a total of $4,400,000 in competitive federal funding from the Airport Terminal Program, created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Law. The senators said the funding will replace up to 4 Passenger Boarding Bridges, including new ground power units, and preconditioned air units.
“When I became majority leader I promised to deliver the federal funding needed to grow the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport and secure the modern upgrades it needs, and this $4.4 million award does just that. Western NY no longer has to wait for takeoff on long-awaited repairs upgrades,” said Senator Schumer. “A modern and well-maintained airport attracts customers, grows the airport, and creates continued success of the entire region. I am proud to land these federal dollars from our Bipartisan Infrastructure & Jobs law to help Buffalo-Niagara International Airport reach new heights.”

Schumer and Gillibrand explained that the Bipartisan Infrastructure & Jobs Law provided $5 billion in competitive grants for airport terminal development projects that address the aging infrastructure of the nation’s airports, and this represents the latest round of the funding. Last year, the Albany, Buffalo, Syracuse and Binghamton’s airports received a total of nearly $25 million in competitive federal funding through the program to modernize airport terminals. Schumer also delivered $20.1 million in the American Rescue Plan, and $37.5 million in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Law to Buffalo-Niagara International Airport in 2021.
