Joseph T. Strnad

MARYLAND - Joseph T. Strnad, 80, passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 29, 2021.
He was born July 17, 1941, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Joseph Charles and Betty Norman Strnad.
He graduated from St. Louis College of Pharmacy and followed in his father's footsteps as a pharmacist at the St. Louis drugstore, Strnad Pharmacy.
While Joe continued his career as a pharmacist, he joined the St. Charles County Sheriff's Department and served as a dedicated reserve officer for 18 years. He obtained the rank of major and was in charge of firearms and narcotics training.
Joe's firearms hobby grew into a passion, where he traveled to many firearm shows throughout the country and trained various organizations and groups. He became a certified NRA firearms trainer and a strong advocate in supporting women with firearms education and training.
In 2003, Joe retired to upstate New York. He became an 18-year active member of the Oneonta Sportsmen's Club, where he was on the board of trustees. He enjoyed the camaraderie with club members, helping further the growth of the club by sharing his passion, and showing up early Sunday mornings to make coffee before the others arrived.
He is survived by his brother, Barry Strnad; children, Beth Spooner and Joe (Lisa) Strnad; grandchildren, Anthony, Maria, Riley, Drake and Macie; and nieces, nephews and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Bruce Strnad.
There will be a private celebration and dedication of a memorial bench at the Oneonta Sportsmen's Club.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the National Wildlife Federation or Oneonta Sportsmen's Club.
