Cops shot, killed in line of duty hits record high in 2021

The number of cops shot and killed in the line of duty across the United States this year has hit a new high, the National Fraternal Order of Police revealed Wednesday.

Fifty-eight police officers had been murdered on the job as of Nov. 30 — up from the 47 killed in all of 2020, according to the FOP’s latest figures.

In all, 314 officers have been shot in the line of duty through the first 11 months of this year, more than the 312 shot in the line of duty all last year.

In addition, the number of ambush-style attacks on cops — defined as attacks carried out without warning or giving officers the chance to defend themselves — has spiked 126 percent compared to last year, FOP figures show.

In 95 ambush-style attacks recorded so far this year, the FOP said 119 officers have been shot, 28 of them fatally.

“ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: More officers have been SHOT and KILLED this year than any other year—and there is one month left!” the organization tweeted as the figures were released.

Former President Donald Trump responded to the FOP’s report Thursday, saying America “has no law and order.”

“When you look at San Francisco, and you look at 100 kids or people running into a store together, and the cops are standing out there not allowed to do their job — they’re not allowed to do their job — and you allow a thing like that to happen, we have a country that has no law enforcement, has no law and order,” the former president told “Fox & Friends.”

“Our police are great,” Trump added. “They’re not allowed to do their job, and they’re now being hit. People aren’t even afraid. They go and shoot police, they don’t respect them. The people of our country love our police and they do respect them, but they’re not allowed to do their job. If you allowed them to do their job, that would stop and crime would stop … We just don’t have law enforcement. We’re not allowed to have law enforcement. Our country, I’ll tell you what, our country is being destroyed.”

A state-by-state breakdown shows that Texas has had the most officers shot in the line of duty so far this year with 42, followed by Illinois (25) and California (21).

Other states with double-digit numbers of officers shot as of the end of November include Florida (17), Georgia (17), Alabama (15), North Carolina (12), Ohio (11) and New York (10).

In New York City, seven officers had been shot on duty as of Nov. 28, an NYPD spokesperson told The Post.

Seven cops were shot in the Big Apple throughout all of 2020, the NYPD said.
