Vote now: Which high school football player is the midseason player of the year?

With states across the country reaching the halfway point of the 2022 regular season, it's a perfect time to check in on awards races.

If the season ended today, who would be the player of the year? 

These 20 players would certainly be candidates. 

Voting will conclude Saturday, Oct. 8, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time.

Descriptions of each player's year thus far are below the poll.

Elijah Brown, QB, Mater Dei (California)

Brown has looked the part of the starting quarterback for the No. 2 team in the country. The four-star accumulated 1,117 passing yards and 15 touchdowns in five games against some stout competition.

Vinny Ballone, ATH, Lowellville (Ohio)

It might be an impossible task finding a quarterback who put up better numbers than Ballone in the first half of the season. The senior has passed for 2,005 yards, 35 touchdowns and zero interceptions. He plays safety for the defense, too, and he’s picked off two passes.

Ethen Knox, RB, Oil City (Pennsylvania)

Knox has been a workhorse for the Oilers (4-1), carrying the ball 177 times for 2,007 yards and 24 touchdowns. He has tallied over 400 yards in each of the past four games, two of which he rushed the ball 40-plus times.

Crew Erickson, WR, Wasatch (Utah)

Erickson has been one of the most productive receivers in nation this year. The senior has posted 1,119 yards and 12 touchdowns, with at least one touchdown in all seven games.

Roderick Robinson II, RB, Lincoln (California)

Robinson has been one of California's leading rushers in 2022. The UCLA commit ran for 1,284 yards and 18 touchdowns in six games, and he's averaging more than 13 yards every time he touches the ball.

Isaac Wilson, QB, Corner Canyon (Utah)

In addition to passing for 1,776 yards and 19 touchdowns, the junior has carried the ball 68 times for 333 yards and one touchdown. The younger brother of New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson has offers from BYU, Oregon, Miami and more.

Keon Keeley, DL, Berkeley Prep (Florida)

Through four games, Keeley has racked up 6.5 sacks and nine tackles for a loss. Once a Notre Dame commit, the five-star recruit has offers from Alabama, Ohio State and more.

Malaki Dowell, RB, White County (Tennessee)

Dowell has totaled 1,834 yards and 26 touchdowns through six games, with an average of over 300 yards and four touchdowns per game. His efforts aren't going unnoticed, as he's picked up offers from Austin Peay, Tennessee Tech and Eastern Kentucky in recent weeks.

Jackson Arnold, QB, Guyer (Texas)

The Oklahoma commit is making it look easy to lead the offense for the No. 12 team in the nation. In Guyer's 5-0 start, Arnold passed for 1,075 yards and 13 touchdowns while adding 140 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

Lamar Sperling, RB, Archbishop Hoban (Ohio)

Through the first six games of the season, the senior has rushed for 1,310 yards and 20 touchdowns, plus he has an 83-yard touchdown reception. “(He is) unstoppable,” Hoban junior quarterback JacQai Long said.

Micah Alejado, QB, Bishop Gorman (Nevada)

The junior puts up big numbers while taking care of the ball, which is evident with his 22 passing touchdowns and zero interceptions. On average, the quarterback for the No. 5 team in the nation goes for about 250 yards and four touchdowns every time he takes the field.

Christian Sanabria, ATH, Camp Verde (Arizona)

One of 20 emerging stars we highlighted a week ago, the junior has 898 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns in five games. He also two interceptions to his name.

Jadyn Davis, QB, Providence Day (North Carolina)

The No. 3 quarterback in the junior class, according to the On3 consensus, Davis leads the charge for one of the top teams in North Carolina. He's posted 1,583 yards and 21 touchdowns through five games this season.

Kayden McDonald, DL, North Gwinnett (Georgia)

The defensive tackle has seven sacks and 28 tackles, 18 of which came for a loss. The senior is also the team’s go-to man in short-yardage situations. He’s carried the ball 29 times for 148 yards and six touchdowns.

Jaden Greathouse, WR, Westlake (Texas)

The Notre Dame commit doesn't have the gaudiest numbers, but he's a big play machine. The 6-foot-3 receiver has 352 receiving yards and four touchdowns through four games, and he's returned two punts for scores for the No. 11 team in the country.

Dante Dowdell, RB, Picayune (Mississippi)

The future Oregon Duck has been running all over competition in 2022. The No. 11 ranked running back in his class, Dowdell has totaled 837 yards (9.4 yards per carry) and 10 scores in five games.

Raylen Wilson, LB, Lincoln (Florida)

In just four games, the No. 2 ranked linebacker in the nation registered 33 tackles, four tackles for a loss and three sacks. The Georgia Bulldogs commit also carried the ball three times, two of which went for scores, and he has been a return man on special teams.

Julian Lewis, QB, Carrollton (Georgia)

It would be quite the accomplishment for a freshman to take home player of the year, but what Lewis has done this season is impressive regardless of age. In his first six games, which were all wins, the highly-touted freshman passed for 1,598 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Kyle Ferrie, K, Harding Academy (Arkansas)

Kickers deserve more respect, and Ferrie is a weapon when it comes to booting the ball. The Mississippi State commit has touchbacks on 30 of 32 kickoffs, he’s perfect on extra-point attempts and he’s hit from 56 yards out.

Deejay Holmes Jr., DL, Pahokee (Florida)

Holmes, who holds offers from UCF, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh and more, has put up monster numbers this year. The senior has 15 sacks, 42 tackles and an interception through five games.
