Dear Northeastern University Community:

Last week, the university announced rigorous testing and quarantine requirements for our students’ arrival on the Boston campus. As we continue to follow the advice of Northeastern’s leading COVID-19 scientists, we have additional recommendations for all Northeastern students to incorporate into their travel preparation.

In the interest of protecting the health of our campus community at the start of the fall term, we recommend that you minimize contact with others for 14 days before travel and that you get a test 72 hours or less prior to your arrival on campus, if you are able. Please do not travel to campus if you test positive or if you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19.

This recommendation applies to all Northeastern students—whether they are arriving in Boston, Seattle, Charlotte, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Vancouver, Toronto, or London—in addition to any quarantine requirements at those destinations.

This recommendation supplements Northeastern’s testing and quarantine requirements in Boston but does not replace them. All Northeastern students arriving in Boston are required to get a test on the first day of arrival, quarantine until their first negative test, and be tested again on their third and fifth days in Boston. Students can fully take part in on-campus activities, including in-person classes, after their third negative test. Please visit our travel and quarantine FAQs on the reopening website for more information.

Throughout the coming months, each of us will take daily actions to protect ourselves, each other, and our surrounding communities: wearing a mask, keeping a healthy distance, washing our hands regularly, taking a daily health assessment, and being tested for the virus that causes COVID-19. Your first actions to #ProtectthePackNU can start before you travel. Thank you for taking responsibility to keep yourself and our Northeastern community safe.

Sincerely,
