N.Y. Spent Over $700 Million on Ineligible Medicaid Costs (1)

New York spent over $700 million in Medicaid payments for recipients who were ineligible for the long-term care program, and billions more on behalf of people who received minimal care, according to an audit released Friday by the state comptroller’s office.

The report found weaknesses in how the state Department of Health oversees the Managed Long-Term Care Program.

It concluded that in addition to payments that shouldn’t have been approved, insufficient oversight over more than six years resulted in $2.8 billion spent for patients who received minimal care.
