As the community mourns the death of a 33-year-old kindergarten teacher from Jersey City, investigators continue to search for evidence. But the victim’s family says that they think they know who killed their loved one.
Luz Hernandez was found buried in a shallow grave in an empty lot in Kearny. Her family says that they think that Junior Santana, the father of Hernandez’s three children, is involved.
The family says that the couple has been separated since November, but still live together.
Authorities say that an autopsy revealed Hernandez died of blunt force trauma to the head and compressions to the neck.
Officials say that Hernandez was reported missing on Monday. Officers went to her home to perform a wellness check and apparently found signs of blood. They found Hernandez’s body on Tuesday.
Family members say that Santana went to church on Sunday with his three children and their grandmother. They say that he has not been seen since.
Authorities have not announced any arrests. They have not stated if Santana is a person of interest.
Anyone who may have information about the death is urged to call the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office at 201-915-1345.
