About Our Fair

Welcome to the NC Science and Engineering Fair Registration Site! The 2024 Hybrid NC Science and Engineering Fair will be held on March 20 & 23, 2024 students participating virtually will be judged on Wednesday, March 20 and the in-person judging will be on March 23. All students projects(virtual and in-person) are reviewed together by the judges. In order to compete in the State NC Science and Engineering Fair, students must be promoted from their Regional NC Science and Engineering Fairs . Their information from the Regional Competition will be promoted and students will login at the top right to confirm and add information to complete registration. There will be additional questions to complete! YOUR REGISTRATION WILL NOT BE COMPLETE UNTIL YOU COMPLETE THE PERSONAL INFORMATION FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL STUDENT. This website will provide information you will need to participate in the NC Science and Engineering Fair. You will have access to registration forms, be able to submit your project ideas, communicate with your teachers, and much more. We are excited you have been selected participate in this years' Hybrid NC Science and Engineering Fair and hope that this website will make the process go smoothly. 2024 Virtual Schedule

  • Wednesday, March 20, 2024
  • 9:00 am– Noon Virtual Judging Elementary, Junior, and Senior will receive an Zoom interview time with judges.

    2024 In-Person Schedule

  • Friday, March 22, 2024
  • 3:30 – 7:30 pm Students check in and set up projects in the Carmichael Wellness Center Courts 1 and 8 The project must be approved by Display and Safety before you leave! STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON ANY OF THE EQUIPMENT IN CARMICHAEL!!
  • Saturday, March 23, 2024
  • 7:45 – 8:45 am Student check in at the Carmichael Welness and and Project Set-Up in Courts 1 and 8. Students must clear rooms by 9:15 am! STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON ANY OF THE EQUIPMENT IN CARMICHAEL!!
  • PROJECTS THAT ARE NOT SET UP AND APPROVED BY 9:00 AM ON SATURDAY WILL NOT BE IN THE FAIR COMPETITION. IF YOU HAVE EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES - CONTACT director@ncsciencefair.org!
  • 9:15 – 9:45 am NCSEF Welcome and Opening - Talley Ballroom
  • 11:30 am –2:30pm Science and Engineering Exhibitor Booths at TSU 3rd Floor. (Students complete the passport and enter a drawing to win a prize!)
  • 10:30 am – 11:30 am Information Session for Parents and Instructors. Judy Day will have a Q & A session on the components of Science Fair Competition – Talley Student Center Ballroom
  • 10:15 am–11:30 am Elementary Student Interviews at projects in Carmichael Wellness Center. Parents/guardians should pick up the students after judging.
  • 11:30 – 2:30 pm Elementary Students are free for lunch, visit exhibits on the 3rd floor of Talley Student Union
  • 10:30 – 12:30 pm Junior Interviews
  • 10:30 - 12:45 pm Senior Interviews at projects in Carmichael Wellness Center. ONLY students, Fair Personnel, and Judges will be allowed in the Junior and Senior Project area.
  • 1:00 – 3:00 pm ALL Projects Open to the Public- Students should be at their projects from 1:00 - 3:00pm. Students should divide their time between standing at their project and visiting other projects. Elementary students will need to leave early for the Awards Ceremony.
  • 2:30 – 3:15 pm Elementary Awards Ceremony in Talley Ballroom, 3rd floor, Talley Student Union
  • 3:15– 4:00 pm Junior Awards Ceremony in Talley Ballroom, 3rd floor, Talley Student Union
  • 3:00 – 4:30 pm Students Dismantle Displays – If displays are not dismantled by 4:45 pm, they will be removed by the Fair
  • 4:15 – 5:15 pm Senior Awards Ceremony in Talley Ballroom, 3rd floor, Talley Student Union

NOTES:

  • Students are encouraged to set up their projects on Friday if possible. Students may begin check-in and setting up at the Carmichael Wellness Center as early as 3:30 pm Friday. All projects should be in place and approved by the Display and Safety Committee by 8:45 am Saturday for judging. Please allow time for the project to be inspected and approved prior to 8:45 am. Projects that are NOT set-up by 8:45 am on Saturday will NOT be in the Fair.
  • On Saturday - do not park in the pay area of the parking deck. The rest of the deck is free on Saturday. The Fair is not responsible for parking tickets given to those parking in undesignated areas.
  • Students found on the exercise equipment in Carmichael WILL BE removed from the competition!
  • Closed judging will begin at 9:15am - students, parents and teachers MUST leave the Carmichael Wellness Center. STEM Exhibitors will be set up on the 3rd floor of Talley across from the Ballroom area at 11:30 am to 2:30 pm.
  • Students may pre-purchase meal tickets for lunch from NCSEF online for $10. It is a boxed lunch and will be available on the 3rd floor of the Tallley Student Union by ticket only. Other lunch options will be available for on-site purchase at TSU and Clark Dining Hall.
  • Students will stay with their projects during the scheduled judge interview period. Students should bring reading or a quiet activity to occupy their time when not being judged. ONLY students, Fair Personnel, and Judges will be allowed in the judging area. Students must stay in the rooms with the room monitors until the end of the judging period.

There will be additional events on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at NC State University. The Award Ceremonies will be in-person and we plan to stream it as well for virtual students. Please stay tuned as additional details are announced. Continue to check our State NCSEF website at ncsef.org.
