The names of lands and assets managed by the NCC are rich in meaning. Each is a reflection of the heritage and cultural diversity of the National Capital Region.

In this regard, the NCC has updated its toponymy policy to better guide the choice of names for the lands and assets under its responsibility. The policy is founded on the principles of integrity, inclusiveness and relevance.

It also includes evaluation criteria, and establishes a clear and transparent naming process.

The toponymy policy applies to the following assets under the NCC’s responsibility:

  • urban parks
  • conservation areas
  • parkways
  • pathways
  • gardens
  • official residences
  • heritage residences
