Houston RI Convention – Get Involved With International Peace Activities

If you’re planning to attend the upcoming RI convention in Houston, you’ve come to the right place. The Host Organization Committee is planning an extraordinary convention for attendees. There are a variety of activities planned throughout the convention week. Here’s a quick look at what you can expect.

ICFR North America

ICFR North America began in 1971, with a suggestion from Allen Sawyer, chairman of the RI World Fellowship Activities Committee. He had seen that the Caravanning Fellowship had already flourished in the UK. So he suggested that the US should also get involved. In March 1971, ICFR North America took to the road and became official at the Houston RI Convention. Rotarian Levi Dichey of Chino, California, was elected chairman of the new organization, and he soon began publishing a quarterly newsletter to members. The fellowship was soon named the Recreational Vehicle Fellowship (RVFR).

Pre-convention events

The Houston RI Convention is a unique opportunity to get involved with international peace activities. The convention features the Presidential Peace Conference (PFP), the Rotaract Pre-Convention Conference, and other special events. You can get involved by volunteering to be a part of the PFP program at the convention. PFP volunteers do not need any prior experience or training; orientation will be provided. The PFP program helps Rotary clubs implement more effective programs in the community.

A recent visit to the Houston RI convention by RI President-elect Jennifer Jones was well received. She has been a member of the organization since 1997 and has served in numerous roles, including vice president, director, district governor, and training leader. She also played a major role in the organization’s rebranding effort as chair of the Strengthening Rotary Advisory Group. She is also a co-chair of the End Polio Now Countdown to History Campaign Committee, which aims to raise $150 million for polio eradication efforts. In addition, she is a member of the Paul Harris Society and the Arch Klumph Society of the Rotary Foundation.
