WINGS MN Spring Educational Event:
I Want to See Him - But Not Her!
Vacillations in Visitation

April 21, 2021
1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

The ability to restrict visitation in guardianships has always been a point of friction.  At what point does freedom of association bend to safety issues? How far must a guardian go to enable visitation desired by a person subject to guardianship? What are unreasonable visitation demands? How can visitation be tailored to preserve both rights and safety? Does the person have the right not to see someone?  How is spousal visitation different?

This panel presentation will discuss these conundrums from the perspectives of the court, guardians, and attorneys representing guardians and people subject to guardianship, factoring in the delicate balance between rights and safety.

WINGS Minnesota is a collaborative which is dedicated to supporting elders, persons with disabilities, family members and helpers, service providers, guardians and conservators through education; building a system that prioritizes supportive decision making and less restrictive alternatives to guardianship, and that maximizes autonomy for persons under guardianship; and sustaining a cooperative conversation where all guardianship stakeholders work to improve outcomes and increase self-determination for people who may need assistance making legal or medical choices.
Facilitation and support of WINGS MN is provided by MN Judicial Branch and the Center for Excellence in Supported Decision Making, a program of VOA MN.
The work of CESDM is supported in part by a Live Well at Home grant from MN Department of Human Services (DHS). Grantees carrying out projects under government sponsorship are encouraged to freely express their findings and conclusions.
