It was a year ago today that Long Island nurse Sandra Lindsay become the first person in the United States to receive a vaccine.
Since then, more than 237 million Americans have received at least one doseA total of 80% of New Yorkers are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.
However, officials say there has been a recent alarming rise in daily cases, deaths and hospitalizations across Long Island.
Long Island’s seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate is 6.66%, with a total of 1,706 new cases and seven new deaths reported.
Health experts are urging residents to get the vaccine and the booster to protect themselves and others ahead of the holiday season.
Lindsay says the fight is far from over and tells News 12 those who are hospitalized and in the ICU are largely unvaccinated.
