What is Pace Bus Tracker?

Pace's Bus Tracker service uses satellite and GPS-based technology to monitor buses' locations in real time and displays that bus data for you. On this site, you can track the next time your Pace bus will arrive at or depart from your bus stop with just the click of a mouse. You can even see where your bus is, in real time, on a map. Bus Tracker helps you better plan your bus trip by giving you a list of predicted arrival or departure times—in real time—instead of relying on the published schedule. In addition to this site, you can use Pace’s other Bus Tracker Tools—such as the text messaging service or the Ventra app-to see the most accurate bus arrival/departure times. You can also sign up for e-mail notifications on this site to alert you when your bus is on its way.

Using Live Departure Times

The Live Departure Times option allows you to retrieve real-time information about bus departure times. Pace recommends choosing “departure times” (instead of “arrival times”) for people waiting for a bus at the beginning of a bus route. For those waiting at any intermediate bus stops, the arrival and departure time is essentially the same. Pace recommends choosing “arrival times” to find out when a bus will reach the last stop on the route. In either case, to see the predicted time, use the drop-down menus to select a route, direction and stop and you will be given the next three arrival or departure times for that stop, based on live data.

The Accessible Version allows you to access real-time bus data in a plain text format, which can be helpful for people using smartphones, screen readers or computers with slow internet connection speeds. Simply choose from the options provided to advance to the next option. You can use the back button at any time to return to the previous option. The next three departure times will be returned in plain text.

Using Electronic Maps

The Google Maps and Bing Maps options allow you to follow the real-time location of Pace buses currently on the road. You can use either one, depending on web browser compatibility and personal preference. Both options provide similar functionality and similar features.

Click on either option and you will be asked to select a route from a drop-down menu. If your browser is incompatible, a message will display a list of compatible browsers along with links to download them. If you have a compatible browser installed, a map will load, displaying the route you chose overlaid on an interactive map of the area. All buses on that route are shown at their current locations as bus icons that move in real-time. If you click or hover the mouse pointer over an individual bus icon or stop, you will be given more detailed information about that item.

Checking the "Show Minor Stops" checkbox will highlight all stops on the selected route on the map. Clicking on or holding the cursor over an individual stop provides the name (usually an intersection) of the stop and the next three bus departure times at that location.

Real-Time Email Notification Service

Pace Bus Tracker now features an e-mail notification service which informs riders, in real time, about the status of the bus(es) they usually take.

You can sign up for Pace Bus Tracker's e-mail notification feature and you will receive an e-mail in advance of your normal boarding time that provides the schedule status of your bus in real time. Riders can sign up to receive these automatic e-mail notifications on a daily basis or whenever they usually take the bus. For instance, daily commuters can request e-mail notifications for their morning bus from home and for their return bus from work. Riders can sign up for an e-mail notification account by selecting 'Notifications' at the top right above and choosing the 'New User' link.

Subscribers can indicate when they'd like to receive the bus status information. They can request the e-mail notification to arrive anywhere between 1 and 45 minutes in advance of their normal boarding time. They will receive the anticipated departure time of their bus at the selected bus stop, calculated in real time. This feature may be helpful for riders who want to know the status of their bus before they go out to the bus stop. During inclement weather, when buses can be delayed, riders can reduce the time they spend waiting at the bus stop.
