Powdersville, SC

Emily Catherine Stansell, 22, of Powdersville, passed peacefully at her home surrounded by family Monday, February 12th. Emily was born June 1st, 2001, to Brett and Angela Stansell. She graduated from Powdersville High School where she was a cheerleader. Emily was a junior at Clemson University, with dreams of working for the Walt Disney Company. Her favorite things included her dogs, Tennessee and Bowman, going to the beach, Disney World trips, watching Disney movies, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings. She loved sitting with her family playing games, and sweets.

Emily is preceded in death by her grandparents, Martha and MJ Stansell, and an uncle , Michael Stansell. She is survived by her parents, Brett and Angela Stansell, her sister, Camryn Crittendon, brother in law, Drew Crittendon, and her brother, Connor Stansell as well as her beloved Bowman and Tennessee. She is also survived by her maternal grandparents, Joe Loyd and Darlene Fickling and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; more than most people ever get to experience.

The family would like to thank Dr. Chris Troup, Dr. Nichole Bryant, and the rest of the pediatric oncology team at Prisma Health, Greenville, for giving the family another eleven years with Emily and the wonderful treatment they gave her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to www.skylastrong.org via their website or BI-LO Charities Children’s Cancer Center via https://prismahealthupstatefoundation.org/ Donations can be directed to the Children’s Hospital – Upstate Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Infrastructure Fund.

A celebration of Emily’s life will be held Saturday, February 17 at 2:00 PM at Marathon Church in Powdersville. The family will hold a visitation period from 12:30 to 2:00 PM preceding the service. In honor of Emily, we invite you to wear something purple (her favorite color) or Disney related.

Emily changed our life and made it so much better because her light shines on us . Her smile would always get her out of any situation and she was always a pure Joy in our life . My sister, Deborah Gillispie, who lives in your neighborhood told me today of Emily's passing. Please know that I am praying for your family. A loss like this is hard for any of us to understand, but even though I don't know you personally it breaks my heart. I along with my prayer warriors will continue to hold you in our prayers.

Emily’s energy and non-stop fight to make her life wonderful is an inspiration to all who knew her and ones who do not. I only met her a couple of times, but I could feel her strong spirit radiate from within her.
